Drug & Alcohol Testing & Support

About the scheme

Employers have a legal duty to protect employees’ health, safety and welfare. Understanding the signs of drug and alcohol misuse helps your business
manage health and safety risks in the workplace.

Drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace can compromise employee and visitor safety, productivity and wellbeing. Employers have both legal and moral
responsibilities to address it effectively.

Substance misuse among employees can lead to a wide range of negative outcomes:

  • Safety risks — impairment from drugs or alcohol increases the likelihood of workplace accidents, especially in high-risk environments such as
    construction, manufacturing or transportation.
  • Reduced productivity — increased absenteeism, presenteeism (attending work while impaired) and reduced performance.
  • Health and wellbeing — misuse can exacerbate physical and mental health issues, affecting individuals and teams through
    increased stress and lower morale.
  • Legal and reputational consequences — employers may face liability if an impaired employee causes harm, and failure to manage substance
    misuse can damage organisational reputation.

ISA (Business Development & Support) can provide the following support for managing drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace:

  • Develop a bespoke drug and alcohol policy.
  • Provide and carry out drug and alcohol testing or screening.
  • Deliver drug and alcohol training and awareness sessions.
  • Run drug and alcohol toolbox talks tailored to your workforce.

By addressing drug and alcohol misuse proactively, employers can reduce accidents, improve employee health and morale, and meet legal obligations — creating a safer, more productive workplace.

ISA (Business Development & Support) will work with your company to provide discreet, fully confidential and bespoke drug and alcohol screening and support.

Contact ISA to discuss a confidential, tailored programme for your workplace.
