Course Description

 

This online course provides a concise but comprehensive overview of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), explaining the key duties, roles and responsibilities of all duty-holders under the regulations. It covers what organisations and individuals need to know to ensure compliance, contribute to safe and efficient construction project management, and understand how health and safety should be integrated throughout the design and construction phases. The course is designed to be completed in around 55 minutes (excluding the test) and is ideal for refreshing knowledge or obtaining a baseline understanding of CDM 2015.

This course is suitable for clients, designers, principal designers, contractors, principal contractors, site managers, health & safety professionals and anyone involved in the planning, design, management or execution of construction work who needs to understand the CDM 2015 regulations. It is particularly valuable for those who are new to the regulations or who need to refresh and update their knowledge in line with current legal expectations and good practice.

Course Content:

  • Introduction to CDM 2015: scope, definitions and purposes
  • Identification of duty-holders under CDM (client, designer, principal designer, contractor, principal contractor)
  • Legal duties and responsibilities of each duty-holder under CDM 2015
  • Planning, managing and monitoring construction projects to satisfy CDM requirements
  • Arrangements for coordination, cooperation and communication between duty-holders
  • Preparation and management of the Construction Phase Plan and other required documentation
  • Health, safety and welfare considerations during construction work
  • Ensuring competence, resources and organisational controls are in place
  • Record-keeping and the maintenance of the Health and Safety File (where applicable)
  • Practical reminders of best practice and what to expect from regulatory inspections or audits

Test and Certification:

At the end of the course, you will take a test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions with a required pass rate of 85%
Upon successful completion, you will be able to download and print a digital certificate if required. The main course certificate is valid for three years, with refresher courses available and recommended every 12 months.
