Legionella Awareness – Refresher

Legionella Awareness – Refresher

Course Description

This refresher course is designed to update learners who previously completed Legionella awareness training on the key principles and practices for controlling the risk of Legionella bacteria in water systems. It revisits and reinforces awareness of how Legionella can develop, what environments and systems are at risk, and the legal and procedural responsibilities for managing those risks. The online format allows participants to refresh their knowledge quickly and efficiently, staying up to date with good practice and regulatory expectations.

Who is this for?

This course is aimed at facilities, maintenance or estate management staff, supervisors, health and safety officers, or anyone responsible for or involved in the control, monitoring or oversight of water systems where Legionella risk may be present. It is particularly suited to those who have previously undergone Legionella training and now need to refresh their knowledge and stay compliant with ongoing duties.

Course Content:

  • Review of the nature of the Legionella bacteria and conditions favourable to its growth (e.g., temperature, stagnation, system design)
  • Overview of the legal framework: e.g., understanding the responsibilities under the UK regulations for Legionella control (ACOP L8 etc)
  • Identifying water systems at risk and vulnerable areas (hot/cold water systems, cooling towers, infrequently-used outlets)
  • Safe operational practices, control measures and monitoring to reduce the risk of Legionella proliferation
  • Refreshed knowledge of assessment, maintenance, inspection, and record keeping regarding water systems
  • Updates or feedback on best practice, lessons learnt, or changes since initial training
  • Multiple‐choice assessment to verify knowledge retention (the course includes a test of 20 questions; pass required is 85%)
