Course Description

This Legionella Awareness Refresher course is designed to update and reinforce existing knowledge of Legionella risks and control measures within water systems. It revisits how Legionella bacteria develop, the environments in which they thrive, and the practical steps required to minimise risks in the workplace. The course also refreshes learners on current legal responsibilities, industry guidance, and best practices, helping ensure continued compliance and safe water system management.

Who is this for?

This course is intended for individuals who have previously completed Legionella awareness training and require an update to maintain competency. It is particularly relevant for facilities managers, maintenance staff, estate and site supervisors, health and safety professionals, landlords, and anyone responsible for managing, monitoring, or controlling water systems where Legionella may be present. It is also suitable for those with oversight responsibilities who need to stay compliant with legal and organisational requirements.

Course Content:

  • Overview of Legionella bacteria and conditions that support its growth (e.g. temperature, stagnation, system design)
  • Health risks associated with Legionnaires’ disease and susceptible groups
  • Legal framework and responsibilities (including ACOP L8 and relevant UK legislation)
  • Identification of high-risk water systems and vulnerable areas
  • Control measures and safe working practices to reduce risk
  • Monitoring, inspection, and maintenance requirements for water systems
  • Risk assessment processes and record keeping
  • Updates on best practice and lessons learned since previous training
  • Assessment to confirm knowledge retention

Test and Certification:

At the end of the course, you will take a test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions with a required pass rate of 85%
Upon successful completion, you will be able to download and print a digital certificate if required. The main course certificate is valid for three years, with refresher courses available and recommended every 12 months.
