Course Description

 

This refresher course revisits the fundamental risks, causes, and prevention strategies related to workplace slips and trips. Delivered online, the module reinforces how small changes in behaviour, housekeeping, and environment can dramatically reduce the likelihood of falls. Learners will be reminded of legal duties, the importance of good maintenance, and the role they play in keeping working areas safe, helping to embed a culture of proactive risk management.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for employees, supervisors, and safety representatives who have previously taken slips and trips training and need a refresher. It’s relevant for people in any role or industry, such as offices, retail, manufacturing, or hospitality, where slip and trip hazards exist. Whether you're responsible for walking routes, cleaning areas, or managing premises, this course helps you stay alert and competent in preventing common accidents.

Course Content:

  • Overview of slips, trips, and falls: definitions and common incidents
  • Legal responsibilities under health & safety legislation
  • Why slips and trips happen: contributing factors (flooring, footwear, contamination, lighting)
  • The “slip potential” concept: how contaminants and surface properties increase risk
  • Good housekeeping practices: keeping floors clear, managing spills, removing obstacles
  • Correct footwear: how footwear choice can reduce risk
  • Maintenance and floor design: maintaining safe surfaces, appropriate cleaning techniques
  • Risk assessment for slip and trip hazards: identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks
  • Behavioural change and reporting: encouraging staff to report hazards and adopt safer behaviours
  • Real-life scenarios / case studies to help consolidate learning
  • End-of-course multiple-choice test to check understanding

Test and Certification:

At the end of the course, you will take a test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions with a required pass rate of 85%
Upon successful completion, you will be able to download and print a digital certificate if required. The main course certificate is valid for three years, with refresher courses available and recommended every 12 months.
